Welcome to 7th grade Math!

This year we are excited to continue using enVision Mathematics 2021 Common Core in grades 5-8. Students have a consumable workbook and an online student account. Grade 7 covers these eight main topics: integers and rational numbers, analyze/use proportional relationships, analyze/solve percent problems, generate equivalent expressions, solve problems using equations & inequalities, use sampling to draw inferences about populations, probability, and solve problems involving geometry. Successful students are curious, seeking to improve, collaborative, and determined.

7th Grade Language Arts

7th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) will focus on the areas of writing, reading, research, and speaking and listening (to include presentation skills and discussion techniques). Vocabulary and grammar instruction are embedded within each unit. Students will read and respond to a variety of literary selections, including novels, non-fiction, short stories, and poetry. In response to these works, students will compose short and longer pieces in the following genres: narrative, expository (including literary analysis), and persuasive. The Writer's-Reader's Notebook is central to this course, in which students will play with language, respond to choice reading, and create writing pieces based on their own interests and passions.

7th Grade Science

Welcome to 7th grade science!  Students will use experimentation, models, lab experiments, hands-on activities, and research to investigate science phenomena. Topics this year include: characteristics of organisms, comparative anatomy and embryology, natural selection, evolution, genetic variation for survival, geology and fossilization, and space.  Students “learn science by doing science” and by answering questions through claims, reasoning, and evidence.
